Starting a Pet Business

Pets have a great deal of money spent on them each year by their adoring owners. People feel an obligation to take care of their pet and will spend money on their pet that they would not spend on themselves. These well known facts create a business need that can be very lucrative and easy to get into by those that possess the knowledge and the skill.

Pet shops, pet salons, pet grooming, pet babysitting and pet care are all potential businesses for a new owner. The new owner can buy an existing business or start one up on their own. Many pet groomers get their start grooming part time and then go full time when they have enough clients. Pet shops and pet care are booming businesses as there are always new pet owners and new pet needs that an owner must take care of.

Many of these pet businesses have a very loyal clientele and buying an existing shop can be tricky. If it is strictly a grooming shop, part of the reason for its success has to be the groomers that work there. If it is for sale, make sure that the seller is not going to open another shop in the area. This can be accomplished by making a non-compete clause part of the sales contract. The advantage to a buyer is there is a built in cash flow and a client list. This is one of the reasons that many experts say that a new owner should buy an existing business if they want to gain an edge on future success.

If the shop sells pets and supplies, then that is a different story and the business can be evaluated like any other retail business. In this case, the buyer would be buying reputation and location as well as the business has some following from existing customers.

A good groomer can start a business in their home and as they grow move into a shop. They then can further expand by adding other groomers to the staff. The profit margins in this business are pretty good as the grooming skill is what is being sold and not a product. This opens the door to a start-up business and a groomer with little capital can grow the business from home.

Where to find a business or grow a clientele

Look on the Internet for brokers that handle this kind of business. Or ask around locally if there is a broker in the area that specializes in buying and selling businesses. Once you find one to talk with, they will help you or lead you to a broker that handles the type of business you are looking for. This is a very good way to start your search for a pet business of any kind. You can also ask groomers if they know of a shop that is for sale or a retail outlet.

One way to get a feel for the business is to work in one for a few months and check out the pluses and minuses. A real hand on experience is an eye opener to a potential owner. Working in the business for a few months will let the possible buyer of such a business see if the business is for them or not. They will see the day-to-day frustrations and small victories that make up a retail business.

Special features such as pick up of pets and delivery will make your business different than other groomers. Special prices on certain days of the week and deals if the customer uses your service three out of every four months are incentives to keep your customers returning to your business. Referrals are worth a discount to the customer that refers a new customer. New customers will return again if treated right the first time they use your service.

Using the Internet to find businesses

A person that is looking to buy a specific type of business can enter the business type in a good search engine and the results will be amazing. The search engines will find many brokers that deal with the buying and selling of businesses. With this information, a buyer can find great information about the businesses for sale and the location and the price in some cases. This is a quick way to gather pertinent facts about the businesses the buyer is looking for. The more precise the input in the search engine, the better the results will be. The modern search engines do a marvelous job of ferreting out the needle from the straw. If you were interested in Pet Shops for sale, you could enter that and you will get a list of places that have such listings. The same would be true with any business related to pets or their care. You could also limit the search to areas of the country or even cities. The point is you can use the Internet to do some of the work and investigate the possibilities.

Arranging financing in advance

If you have good credit and a reasonable down payment, you can arrange your financing of a business before you find such a business. This could easily save you money on the purchase price as most businesses for sale have a lower all cash price than one where the old owner has to take back some paper. Cash is king when negotiating the sale. Your own financing will also give you a quicker look at the financials of a business. Owners like to deal with serious people and a person with their own financing in place will be taken seriously. There are companies that do nothing but finance business purchases. These are easily found on the Internet. You would not do yourself any harm by checking out some of these companies, just in case they are needed. Money talks when negotiating and having the ready cash available will give you a leg up in this discussion.

Conclusions

There are many positives about the pet business. There will always be a call for the services and supplies that these businesses offer. The grooming aspect of it can be started from your home with little start-up money needed. This will allow a person to grow into a full time business and continuously make money. This fact makes the grooming part of the business very attractive if a person has the requisite knowledge to do the grooming.

The supply part of the business is like most retail enterprises. Location and following will make an existing business more valuable than another. The terms of purchase are important and may make or break the deal. A thorough financial study of the existing business is needed to see if the price to be paid is justified or not. These facts are easily documented through sales records and bank statements. A potential owner would like to see a steady growth pattern over several years. Growth curves and a study of how the business is being run, from an efficiency standpoint, are worth the look-see How does the business respond to marketing campaigns and have they been successful. The point is a study should be made of the business in question..

Cremation Jewelry in Nature Motifs

For a deceased loved one who delighted in flora, fauna, and the great outdoors, no memorial keepsake could be more fitting or thoughtful than cremation jewelry in a nature motif.

The fact is that many who opt for cremation instead of traditional burial are inclined to do so because they view cremation as the more earth-friendly means of final disposition. For someone who lived life as an outdoor enthusiast or steward of the earth, one way to honor her memory and keep her legacy in mind is by choosing an ash pendant with a nature theme in which you can wear or display a memorial keepsake.

Originally named for the inner chamber designed to contain a tiny quantity of ashes from a cremation, cremation jewelry today may hold one of several types of keepsakes, such as dried and pulverized ceremonial flowers, a clipping of hair, or a small handful of soil from a gravesite.

Urn Pendants Inspired by Animals:

Nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts come in all shapes and sizes, and memorial pendants come in dozens of themes inspired by nature. Some keepsake pendants and cremation necklaces represent creatures that swim in the ocean, live on dry land, or fly through the air, from wildlife (such as eagles, owls, dolphins, and wolves, for example) to domesticated pets, like dogs and cats.

Marine and Plant Life Themes in Cremation Jewelry You’ll also find cremation keepsakes in countless plant life designs, from a wide variety of flowers to acorns, pine cones, and trees. Aquatic themes are also very popular in cremation jewelry. Dolphins, fish, and turtles, as well as sand dollars, seahorses, starfish, and seashells are some of the marine themes that grace cremation jewelry and capture the spirit of happy times spent at the sea shore.

Nature-Themed Memorial Jewelry Honors Your Loved One Urn pendants in the image of animals, plants, and marine life serve not only as a way to honor your loved one, but also as a reminder to all of use to honor the earth. Your choice of a memorial necklace may represent your loved one’s particular interest – whether cats, flowers, or wildlife – or you may simply choose a general nature themed cremation pendant to serve as a reminder of your loved one’s legacy. Whether you wear your cremation jewelry around your neck or display it as a memorial in your home, however, your ash pendant in a nature motif will capture the essence of your loved one’s time here on earth.

Finding a Store to Buy Exotic Pet

Having a pet in the house can provide enjoyment to everyone in the family. However, pets can also keep everyone on their toes especially when they are very active and require extra care. Owners of exotic pets may find that they have to work double time in caring for their pets as compared to those who have ordinary pets like dogs or cats.

While most people would prefer to own dogs, cats or birds that are commonly found in every household, there are those who enjoy the challenge of caring for an exotic pet. Some people are interested in exotic pets because of their uniqueness and maybe because they have gotten tired of their ordinary pets.

A person who wants to have an exotic pet can purchase it in an exotic pet shop, adopt one or wish for a lucky star and wait for someone to gift him with an exotic pet. Exotic pets are rare and most are found only in the wild. Knowing this, how can prospective exotic pet owners get their exotic pets?

The popularity of exotic pets has encouraged pet shop owners to come up with their own collection of exotic pets. There are even several pet shops that sell exotic pets online.

Before deciding on purchasing or adopting an exotic pet, it is wise to evaluate the motivation behind such decision. Exotic pets aren’t easy to care for like the ordinary pets and the future owner should be more attentive and more committed in taking care of his exotic pet.

Scout around for pet shops selling exotic pets in your area and make sure the exotic pet you want to own and purchase is legal in your jurisdiction. The law prohibits the selling of certain exotic pets and being in possession of one can get you in trouble later on.

This is one of the most common questions I get. Unfortunately it is one of the most difficult for me to answer. So much of this question depends on which sort of pet is involved, where a person lives, and what resources are available in the area.

Make sure to visit pet shops that are reputable and have valid licenses when scouting for your exotic pet. Also do some research on the exotic pet and ask the right questions from the seller like how old the animal is, how safe to keep the exotic pet, its habitat, eating habits and the potential dangers it may pose to your household or the neighborhood.

Before buying the exotic pet, check out the condition of their homes in the pet shop. There are pet shops that take safety and the health of exotic pets in general and this may have a negative result on the exotic pet you are planning to buy. Also ask the pet store if there are vaccines available for the type of exotic pet you want and if such pet has already been given such vaccines if they are applicable.

Cat Treats From Homemade Recipes

Cat Treats From Homemade Recipes

There are so many options available to the health conscious cat owner. Do I buy manufactured food and cat treats? If I buy manufactured, should I buy canned or dry? What fresh ingredients are the best for my cat?

While you must make the decision about whether to go manufactured, fresh, or a combination of the two, you should know there are lots of options about preparing your own healthy, tasty cat treats. There are also some things to remember about the best nutrition for your cat.

Cats need a combination of dry and moist food choices. The moist choices usually provide the more natural dietary needs cats have as true carnivores. The protein content is usually higher, providing them with more of what they need in each feeding. Yet moist foods have less filler, so it may take more food to fill kitty’s tummy.

The dry choices are also important. They do help to satisfy the cat’s hunger. I think we would go broke trying to keep our cat Tommy full on only canned cat food products! Second, the crunchy texture of the dry cat food choices provides dental care for your cat. Keeping teeth clean is an important aspect of his health, and it avoids the unpleasant sedation required for the vet to clean them.

Purchasing the variety of foods and cat treats necessary to keep your cat at its optimum health can be burdensome, both in the quantity of products you purchase and the space to store them, but also financially. One alternative to purchasing is to make your own cat food.

So many choices are available for a cat owner who wants to make his own foods. There are recipes available for kitty biscuits and crunchy treats. There are recipes for chicken and fish meals. There are recipes for those who desire to add a vegetable based element to their cat’s diet.

Some of my favorite cat treat recipes are so easy to make, and Tommy absolutely loves them. It’s as if he tastes the love that goes into preparing them! I have a couple recipes for kitty cookies, which we give Tommy as treats. The one he likes best is a flour-based recipe, and it includes wheat germ, and molasses.

Another of Tommy’s favorite recipes is a chicken and broth mixture rolled in a tortilla. The texture of the chicken blended with the broth is very similar to a canned cat food, and when it is rolled in a tortilla and sliced, it is very convenient to reward him every so often with a tasty treat. This recipe has to be refrigerated, and it can only be kept a few days before you run the risk of food poisoning.

Believe it or not, another favorite of Tommy’s is a kitty taco. This one is so easy for me to make anytime I brown ground beef for my family meal. It includes bone meal and cheese, which always brings Tommy running.

If you want a daily cat food instead of just cat treats you may consider a fish-based or a chicken-based homemade recipe. Tommy is a fan of anything that is made fresh. One of the greatest benefits of making your own cat food is you know exactly what quality of ingredients is going into the food. You can be assured your cat is getting choice cuts of fish and chicken, rather than animal by-products. Also, if you choose to add a vegetable component to your cat’s diet, you are certain that your cat is not getting leaves, stalks and other plant by-products that can be found in some manufactured foods.

I have the luxury of taking the time to cook for my cat and my family, but that was not always the case. If you find yourself on a busy schedule, and stepping foot in the kitchen to cook for the cat makes you cringe, you might consider a couple options.

First, plan your cat’s diet around your family’s diet. When you fix fish for the family, purchase a little extra to turn into cat treats. When you make a batch of cat food, it will only last a couple days in the refrigerator. Any cat can eat the same meal a couple days in a row, if it is a fresh, homemade option.

Second, use a couple hours on a weekend or free evening to prepare several recipes at once. You can freeze these homemade options until you are ready to use them. While you are preparing some of the perishable items, you may also opt to mix up a couple batches of homemade treats, which last longer and usually don’t need refrigerating.

Cat owners love their cats, and we want them to have the best diet without breaking the bank or our schedules. There are lots of cat treat recipes that cats love and they require only a little extra time to prepare them. If your cat is anything like Tommy, he will love the time and effort you put into preparing his meals. You can provide your cat with the safest, most beneficial diet by using some innovative, simple homemade cat treats recipes.

For a great list of some of Tommy’s favorite cat treats recipes, visit Cat Treats Recipes and download the free copy of homemade recipes. Enjoy!

The Truth About Cat Stress and Idiopathic Cystitis in Cats

The Truth About Cat Stress and Idiopathic Cystitis in Cats

Are you frustrated with constant bouts of cystitis in cats in your feline companion?  Has your vet diagnosed him with idiopathic cystitis in cats?  Have you wondered if cat stress has something to do with the recurring episodes of FLUTD?  Read on for answers to your questions.

What Is Feline Idiopathic Cystitis?

Your cat shows all the symptoms of cystitis in cats.  He strains to urinate, but doesn’t pass much urine.  His urine may be bloody.  He’s obviously in pain when he’s using the litter box.  And he may be urinating in places other than his litter box.

But when your vet examines him and runs a urinalysis and a urine culture, there’s no sign of a bladder infection.  There’s no bacteria in his urine, and bladder stones, tumors, and even an anatomical defect have all been ruled out.

Feline idiopathic cystitis is the diagnosis when there doesn’t seem to be any reason for feline urinary problems.  It’s very difficult to watch your cat suffer with FLUTD symptoms when there doesn’t appear to be any reason for these cat urinary problems.  The worst thing is that this condition is becoming more common in cats as time goes on.

Is Cat Stress Related To Idiopathic Cystitis In Cats?

Research is showing that this condition in cats is very similar to interstitial cystitis in people.  In both cats and people, some sort of stressful event often happens just before the cat or person suffers another bout of cystitis.

Sometimes we don’t realize how much stress our cats face.  It may be hard to believe, but being an indoor cat is stressful for felines.  We keep them inside for their own safety, but this is an unnatural environment for felines.  They do like to prowl around, especially at night.  Hunting for food provides lots of exercise that keeps them in shape.

We also feed them the wrong type of diet, which is another stressor.  Most dry cat foods are made mostly from corn, which is very high in carbohydrates.  Too much of the wrong type of food leads to obesity, feline diabetes, and other health issues.

Something that many cat owners don’t consider is that the moisture level in dry cat food is extremely low.  Cats are meant to get most of their water from their diet, which should be mostly meat-based.  A cat who is always fed dry food is more than likely chronically dehydrated.  Even if a cat who is fed dry food does drink water, it’s hard for him to drink enough.

The problem with a dehydrated cat is that water doesn’t pass through his body often enough to flush out toxins.  His urine is also concentrated.  Urine is caustic, and if it’s too concentrated, it can irritate the bladder, which leads to cystitis.  Concentrated urine also has high mineral levels, which can result in cat bladder stones, and urinary blockage in cats.

This type of stress is low-level, but it can lead to problems over time.

Your cat may be facing other types of stress.  Cats are very set in their ways, and any kind of change can be upsetting for them.  Moving to a new home, remodeling, adding another person or pet to the household, even a change in the weather, can all be stressful for your cat.  Your cat may be having problems with another cat in the home, too, especially if the other pet is more aggressive and seems to bother him a lot.

Reducing Cat Stress

It’s been shown that reducing stress in cats does reduce the frequency of cystitis in cats.  It’s also important to feed your cat a diet more naturally suited for felines to reduce stress on his body.

You may also want to consider trying a natural remedy for cat bladder infection.  The incidence of feline urinary problems can often reduced by giving your kitty a cat uti remedy that contains herbs and homeopathic remedies known to cure bladder problems.

By taking these steps to help your furball, you can solve the problem of idiopathic cystitis in cats.

Exotic Pets and Children

Exotic Pets and Children

Most children love animals and will usually start asking for a pet. Allowing them to have one can depend on many factors including where you live, how much time you have to give to a pet and your child’s maturity level. Is your child ready for a pet? Does he display real interest in an animal friend, or is it just the latest whine-de-jour? How does he handle responsibilities? Does he complete his age appropriate chores or is it a constant struggle to get him to do anything? If you cannot get him to pick up his dirty drawers, will he really feed, water and clean up after a pet?

Apartment dwellers are often drawn to the exotic pets because they are small and relatively easy to care for. Before starting to look at actual animals, make sure you know your child’s temperament and level of commitment to the idea and then narrow down the search. Find the right category of animal first and then start looking. Your search should take you to a reputable pet shop where a knowledgeable salesperson should take the time to match your child to the right pet, and not just try to make a fast sale. Make sure that you know what kind of equipment your new pet will need to stay happy and healthy before even heading down to the pet shop; some pets will be far more expensive initially than others.

Understand that while the child is the one that is asking for this pet, you will ultimately be overseeing its care, and potentially taken over full time. With that in mind, you will want to consider if you will be able to tolerate the chosen pet. If you are anti-snake, and your son has refused to clean the cage, what will you do? Also, consider the pet’s diet before allowing him to become part of your family. Snakes for instance, eat rodents. Will you be able to handle that? Will it be too intense for your child?

Finally, realize that the attention span of even the most patient child can be as short lived as the toy filled commercials they are bombarded with. Today’s “hot” pet will be tomorrow’s passé reject, so be prepared to step in and adopt the cast off. Until your child is older than ten, you might want to stick with fish, or birds, both of which require minimal human contact, are pretty and rarely creep out Mom.

A Better Choice of Pet Supplies Online

A Better Choice of Pet Supplies Online

The pet shops of today have a far better choice than those of years ago.  Not only do they cater for a wider variety of animals, but they also have a much better choice of all things related.  We now have a much greater understanding of an animal’s dietary needs and far more emphasis is placed on the nutritional properties of food.

However, even if you go into one of the largest pet shops that you can find, you will often still find it difficult to track down certain items; especially if you are the owner of a more unusual animal.  Reptiles or snakes require certain special diets and these cannot always be found in a high street pet supplies outlet.  You may find yourself having to travel quite a distance just to get hold of the specialist supplies you need; this can be both time consuming and expensive (not to mention annoying).

Another problem with high street pet stores is that they are normally quite limited when it comes to space.  Even one of the larger outlets will only be able to stock a certain amount of items because they always need to leave enough room for checkouts and for their customers to walk around.

This is a very good reason to do your shopping for pet accessories on the internet.  Because online companies do not have to set out their stock with customers in mind, they can fit a great deal more in their warehouses.  Many of them will even sell other related items because they have enough free space in their stores.

With an online pet supplier, you may well come across outdoor clothing, footwear and garden accessories as well as an extensive selection of food and accessories.  This can be really useful because it means not having to place other orders with several different companies; you will be able to purchase a variety of goods and have them all on the same bill!

And (if you hadn’t already heard!) you will normally be able to find your items for a far better price on the internet than you would in a high street outlet.  Because online stores do not have the same amount of overheads to worry about they are able to offer their goods at a much reduced price.  This is great news for customers and it means more trade for online firms as well.

Needless to say, more and more pet owners are choosing to buy their food and accessories over the internet.  If you are bulk-buying your supplies each month then it can work out a great deal cheaper than using your nearest store, (even with the postage costs) and it will all be delivered to your door.

People will always keep pets, and owners will always need to buy food and accessories for them.  The internet gives us a very simple way of finding exactly what we are looking for and offers items for a far better price.

G.J.W.Titmuss Ltd boasts an outstanding range of pet supplies and pet accessories. We cater for all types of pets including dogs, cats, poultry, pond fish, small animals, horses and more. Choose from over 10,000 pet products at some of the lowest price on the Internet. For latest offers, go to http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk

Buying Pet Supplies Online

Buying Pet Supplies Online

Owning pets is a joy, but it can be quite all-consuming.  These days, both time and money are in short supply and most pet owners would rather spend theirs playing with or looking after their pet, rather than going through the monotonous task of shopping for pet supplies.

Whether it’s dog food, cat nip or trout pellets, all animals need a constant supply of something to keep them happy and healthy.  However, not all pet owners have a pet shop within easy reach and those that do can often find their needs are not entirely catered for.  Given the current market and economy, this is understandable; the cost of running a pet shop is exceptionally high compared to both the amount of business and constant turnover of products.  Animal foods like trout pellets don’t last forever and lots of stock has to be thrown away before it is sold, making the overheads involved in stocking a wide range of pet supplies far too high for most pet shops to manage.  Of course, this is of little use to the consumer, who may find that the limited range of pet supplies available in the average pet shop is simply not enough for their needs.

For this reason, there is a growing market for online pet shops, which can afford to offer a huge range of supplies without risking the same overheads.  As big an advantage as this is for the shop, it is even better for the customers, who can choose from a huge range of supplies without even having to leave their own house.  Due to the reducing running-costs, the prices available online are also even lower than customers can expect to find in conventional shops.  Combined, these advantages mean that customers can choose from wider range of products at cheaper prices, with a minimum of time and effort.  Online pet supplies hence take up less time and money whilst also offering a chance to vary the supplies that pet owners are buying for their animals.

I, for one, have been buying pellets for my trout farm online for years – ever since I discovered it was possible!  Not only do they cost me half as much as they used to, they are also fresher and last much longer than shop-bought trout pellets that have been sitting around on shelves for months.  What’s more, many online pet shops also include a feature that will store your details and remember exactly what you bought last time you shopped online.   This means it only takes me single click to re-order my regular pet supplies and have them delivered to my house the next day!  A chore that used to take a couple of hours from my afternoon now takes a matter of seconds and costs me less!

Of course, I should mention that not all online pet shops are as trustworthy as the sites I use.  If you are considering buying your pet supplies online, I highly advise using a trusted and well-established website with lots of customers like http://www.gjwtitmuss.co.uk.  Although it’s unlikely you’ll be scammed or let down, you can never be too safe when shopping online and it’s simply not worth taking any chances when there are so many great online pet shops available already!

To save time and money and get a wider range of fresher pet supplies, consider shopping online.

GJW Titmuss are a well established UK  family owned wildlife pet food and Pet accessories suppliers. Boasting an outstanding range of pet supplies and accessories. GJW Titmuss cater for all types of pets including dogs, cats, poultry, pond fish, small animals, horses and more.
